Amigos Annual Meeting

Please join the Amigos de la Sevilleta at our Annual Meeting. Enjoy food, conversation, and a talk by Hunter Prude, a graduate student at New Mexico State University. Hunter will present an overview of mountain lion ecology in the southwest, including his research on the diversity found in lion diets in southwestern New Mexico and the influence of man-made water sources on lion behavior and predation.

Great tour for your first time on Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge! Join Refuge staff and naturalist on the exploration of Cerritos de las minas area on Sevilleta. Grab your hiking boots, hats, binoculars, and lunch for this journey. The hike will be approximately 5 miles over uneven surfaces, in arroyos, and up hills. This is a great opportunity to see parts of the refuge that you cannot otherwise see.

The desert comes alive at night! Join Amigos de la Sevilleta Volunteer Naturalist on this evening hike to take in the beauty of Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge under the full moon. Approximately a 4-mile moderate to strenuous hike over uneven surface, in arroyos and up hills. 

Valentine's Day Tree Planting

Help the Refuge enhance riparian acres with native willows to benefit southwestern willow flycatchers and yellow-billed cuckoos. Bring sturdy clothing and footwear, gloves, sun protection, and a sack lunch.  Snacks and water will be provided.

Sevilleta by Horseback

Once upon a time: A lecture on ranching

Spanish colonizers brought livestock with them; thus began the first grazing on land that is now Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge.  Livestock have left marks on this beautiful landscape – scattered wells, line shacks, fence posts, a rock cairn.  Join us for a talk and slide program placing local livestock raising in the context of the western United States cattle industry up through the Campbell Family ranch that became Sevilleta.
