Ladrones Vista Hike

Start your morning on the right foot!  Join us for guided hike on Ladrones Vista and Mesa view trails. Hike will be moderate, approximately 5 miles over uneven surfaces, in arroyos and up hills. Lace up your boots and grab your hiking stick.

Great Backyard Bird Count

Be part of a global effort. Join our Great Backyard Bird Count! We will have a short bird watching hike near the Visitor Center, then caravan to Unit A to enjoy our winged residents on the wetland’s trails, back at the Visitor Center by noon. Bird counts will be uploaded to e-bird. See birdcount.org for details.

Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge used to be a cattle ranch, and before that a Land Grant, and before that, home to the Piro people. In his lecture, historian Rex Myers will review earlier history, then focus on the cattle ranch, owner Thomas Campbell, and the context of western livestock industry. Physical remnants of the cattle ranch survive today across the Refuge landscape.

The tour will highlight the Ranching history of Sevilleta and include remaining physical remnants of the Campbell Ranch and earlier settlement.  The tour will be vehicle based but there will be some hiking will be over uneven surfaces.
