Once upon a time: A lecture on ranching

Spanish colonizers brought livestock with them; thus began the first grazing on land that is now Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge.  Livestock have left marks on this beautiful landscape – scattered wells, line shacks, fence posts, a rock cairn.  Join us for a talk and slide program placing local livestock raising in the context of the western United States cattle industry up through the Campbell Family ranch that became Sevilleta.

Pinos Rim Cactus Hike

This is a great tour for those who have not explores the Los Pinos beauty! Join staff and Amigos de la Sevilleta volunteer naturalists on a search for some amazing blooms and views. Hike will be a strenuous STEEP 4 miles over uneven surfaces up hills and along arroyos.  Pack your lunch, grab your hiking stick and make your reservations as spots fill fast.  Hike will be steep!

Amigos, join us for outing on Sevilleta’s West Mesa! Take in the views, enjoy the company! Bring your lunch and camera. Hiking is less than 1 mile, over uneven surfaces. All participants must be Amigos members – you can join when you call or join online on the Membership page. Individual memberships start at $25.
